The Player Interviews
Sami Sidia: This is his second final table and it has been rough work to get to the final table. He has spent the entire tournament as a short stack and is going for the win for his baby girl that is six weeks old.
Deon Minnaar: Has been playing online poker for the last six months and is surprised as to how tiring the live event has been. This is his first big tournament.
David Spangenberg: This is his fourth final table and he is changing his name to the Shortstack Kid. He is confident that he will be the last person to leave the final table. The beard that he is sporting will only be shaved if he wins a tournament… he is confident that he will shave on Monday.
Lolly Jackson: This is his first All Africa final table and he has had a good run. He has been at a good chip stack for most of the event. As a warning to the other players he says “I am not here to Teaze!”
Evern van Niekerk: This is his first All Africa and his first live tournament. It has been an awesome experience and a roller coaster ride. The only person that he feels he can’t get a read on at the moment is Melanie.
Robert Kay: It’s been a while since he has been to an All Africa and this is his first final table. He used his reputation as a loose player to his advantage and played patiently and tightly. His strategy for the final table is to sit back and let the others knock each other out.
Rudolf Fourie: This is his sixth All Africa but his first final table which is a monkey off his back. He has also alternated from short stack to chip leader to short stack and now is at about the middle of the field. He has learnt how to play his position and wait for the better hands.
Andre Johnstone: This is his 10th All Africa and his third final table. After his initial success with back to back final tables he went through a dry spell and had to re-evaluate his game. He will continue with more of the same strategy at the final table.
Mel Banfield: This is her 8th All Africa and her first final table. Experience has finally gotten her to the final table although she has had very good cards that have worked well. She plans to pick on the short stacks. Mel is the second lady to make an All Africa final table but plans to be the first to win it.
Neville Eber: He has been to nearly every single All Africa and this is not his first final table. His strategy is to sit back and go deeper into the money, then to make it to heads up and eventually, to win it.
