The Battle of the Bold
Sixty four of the world’s top poker players are flexing their muscle for one of the toughest poker battles which is set to take place in March 2009: The televised National Heads-Up Poker Championship.
This “by invitation only” $20,000 Buy-In No Limit Hold’em Championship is delivered in a unique manner. The series of games are played in heads-up format right from the word go, and as a player eliminates an opponent, he/she proceeds to the next round, until eventually only one player remains and is crowned the overall champion.
Players who have already confirmed their attendance are defending champion Chris “Jesus” Ferguson; 2008 WSOP Main Event Winner Peter Eastgate; the “grandfather of poker,” Doyle Brunson as well as 2008 Bluff Magazine Player of the Year, John “Razor” Phan.
Naturally the layout of this type of championship, combined with the fact that it will comprise a playing field of most of the crème of the crop on the poker scene, will make for some intense poker action and even more compelling viewing. During previous years, it featured the likes of Phil Hellmuth, Greg Raymer, Kathy Liebert, Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Howard Lederer and many more.
