Spotlight on Darren Kramer, All Africa Poker Finalist
All Africa Poker player Darren Kramer played his way to the final tables and bagged the SA Poker Open title on Sunday the 10th of February 2008 in Joburg. Kramer competed against a mixture of local and international talented hopefuls that participated in the increasingly popular tournament. Apart from the skilled locals, there were 57 players who all flew in from nineteen different countries, to get a piece of the action. The tournament progressed and the mix of 175 was reduced to the 8 who battled it out in the final tables in the space of three days.
The 8 players remaining in the loop and qualifying for the final tables were definitively not your usual suspects. Some players (like Melanie Banfield, a.k.a: “the queen of poker”) got their fist taste of a little final table action…
When the final round kicked off, Kramer managed to stay in the game even though he was in the bottom half of the chip leaders. One by one the players were all sent to the rail, until only Chris Convery and Kramer remained. The pressure was definitively piled on Kramer who went heads up against Convery who had double his stack. Despite his disadvantage Kramer outplayed the seasoned pro and managed to claim the $140 575 first prize.
Kramer has already finished in the money twice at Piggs Peak’s All Africa Poker Tournament and will be amongst the group of All Africa Poker players who will brave the 2008 WSOP later this year. The seats have been filled and South Africa eagerly awaits the kickoff of the upcoming All Africa Poker Tournament set to take place on the 28th Of February in Piggs Peak Swaziland.
