Quick action after lunch
In one of the first hands after lunch Ryan Eber tried to steal a raised pot with three callers. Everyone afforded him respect except Ray Rahme who was holding A Q. When Ray made the call Eber showed J 9. He hit the flop with his 9 but the river brought the dreaded Ace to give Ray the hand and knock Ryan Eber out in 62nd place. One previous winner knocks out another.
Francis Vanderlinden proved that he could kill two birds with one stone when he knocked out Louis de Lira and Andre Steenkamp in one hand. He had Q Q to Steenkamp’s J J and de Lira’s A 6. The flop gave Steenkamp a flush draw and the turn a straight draw with de Lira hoping for an ace. The river was both the wrong colour and the wrong shape and Louis de Lira goes home in 61st spot with Andre Steenkamp following closely in 60th position.
The other short stacks, Anthony Gordon and Johannes Hoffman both doubled up to keep their hopes alive.
