The chip counts vary for two reasons. One is the miscounts that happen during the tournament and is usually attributable to players in a rush to leave the poker room for the break. The second reason is that when smaller chips get removed from play and bigger chips are introduced, there is often rounding so the starting chips will not usually match the ending count. 2,975,000 is the correct starting value after the re-buy period.
