News The stakes are much higher than you think
Once again we are on the threshold of Africa’s most anticipated Poker Tournament, set to take place from the 28th of February to the 2nd of March 2008. As always, one can expect stacks of poker action, loads of anticipation and of course… another instant millionaire! And the fact that it has a guaranteed prize pool of R3 million, is more than reason enough to enter, but the stakes are even so much higher than that. Sponsored by Piggs Peak Hotel & Casino Swaziland, the Winner and Runner-Up of the main event will get the an all expenses paid chance to compete against the top poker players internationally, at the 2008 World Series of Poker, held in Las Vegas!
In 2006, Jamie Gold walked away with a record breaking pot of $12 million at the main event, and the runners up also went home with a big smile on their faces: 2nd place: $6.1 million; 3rd place: $4.1 million.
In 2007, the main prize amounted to an impressive amount again, as Jerry Chang won himself $8.2 million! What’s more Chang is fairly new to the poker scene having only played for around two years before his big win. Interestingly enough, this was the very tournament where local legend Raymond Rahme made history and won his prize pot of over $ 3 million, for finishing third.
