Gavin Griffin claims 2008 Borgata Poker Classic title and makes poker history!
Gavin Griffin, who held the record for being the youngest ever player to win a World Series gold bracelet, has done it again. Griffin clinched the title at the 2008 Borgata Poker Classic Event 13 in the No Limit Event of the World Poker Tour, on Friday the 1st of February.
Griffin had his work cut out for him when he faced 5 other strong opponents at the final table, but he paced himself and settled in for the challenge. After hours of play the only one standing between Griffin and the $1,401,109 first prise was David Tran. The deciding hand unfolded as follows: Griffin and Tran got it all in preflop with Griffin behind with QS JC against Tran’s
KS 8S. The board went in Griffin’s favour showing AC 9D 8D QD 10D sending Tran to the rail in second place with $737,685 as consolation prize. Griffin not only walked away with the title and prize money but a $25,500 entry into the WPT World Championship, a Tag Heuer watch, and a customized Harley-Davidson motorcycle. But more importantly, Griffin also earned the historic poker Triple Crown. Holding the title’s from the European Poker Tour, the World Series Of Poker and the World Poker Tour, a feat that no other player in poker can lay claim too.
