From rags to riches through poker
Dutch player Pieter de Korver, an amateur who won his seat to the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo through a TV Poker Show in Holland, outsmarted some of the biggest names in poker to win the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. With this victory, de Korver, who is reportedly from rather moderate means, not only nabbed one of the most prestigious poker titles in history, but collected a jaw dropping prize of €2,300,000!
Best of all is that at a stage, de Korver was almost completely eliminated. By the time there were only 4 players left in this coveted poker tournament, he was on a short stack of 905,000, versus the 7,81million of Tulchinskiy, who was the chip leader at the time! The situation looked even more grim shortly thereafter, when his stack shrunk to a meagre R400,000. But the determined Dutchman managed to claw back miraculously, until he finally went heads-up with American poker player Matthew Woodward, who earned an equally impressive €1,300,000 for being runner up.
