Day 1C at WSOP 2009
There were a total of 873 players in Day 1B, down from previous years – most likely due to the 4th of July holiday and celebrations … by all accounts many players partied the night away.
Some of the notable players on Independence Day included former WSOP champions “Amarillo Slim” Preston – 1973; Doyle Brunson – 1976, 1977; Jim Bechtel -1993; Carlos Mortensen – 2001; Chris Ferguson – 2000; Chris Moneymaker – 2003 and Greg Raymer – 2004. Only Preston and Raymer made it through to the end of play. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow survived the day but was shortstacked.
Today’s players seem a bit bemused by the news just announced by tournament director, Jack Effel that Days 1C and 1D will be playing 5 levels as opposed to the 4 played on the first two day 1’s. Day 2A, on Tuesday, will play five levels. Day 2B will play only four levels. Then when the field combines on Day 3, the players will all be on Level 10. The reason given for the change is to make sure everyone can fit in the combined Day 2B field, as the fields are expected to be larger today and tomorrow.
