DJ Fresh on the Felt

The team spent the afternoon playing poker with popular personality, DJ Fresh. We hoped that we could show the music maestro a thing or two about the game but it seems he is a natural! DJ Fresh certainly has the eye and skill for poker!

Hopefully we will soon be seeing DJ Fresh at the All Africa Poker Tournament. Watch out guys – Fresh is after the piggy!

8th Annual World Poker Tour Invitational at Commerce Casino

The 8th Annual World Poker Tour Invitational at Commerce Casino saw Hollywood and Poker royalty hit the felt for charity this last week. The three day event allows the stars to brush up on their poker skills whist raising a few bob for non profit organisation, Chysalis.

Some of the famous faces included Teri Hatcher, Eric Dane, Lee Ann Rimes and Jenny Mcarthy as well as poker pros Chris Ferguson, Mike Matusow and Phil Laaik.

The field of over 500 has been whittled down to a final table which will be played out on 3 March 2010.

The March 2010 will kick off a new structure for the All Africa Poker Tournament. The buy in is now R20,000 (R15,000 going to the prize pool and R5,000 for accommodation/food and beverage package). There are unlimited re-buys and one add-on for the first evening. Re-buys are R5,000 for 10,000 chips and the Add-on is R7,500 for 25,000 chips.

Congrats to Warren Zackey!

Well done to Warren Zackey for winning the Swazi Royal Rumble! Warren continues to impress the poker scene since he first debuted at the May 2009 All Africa Poker Tournament where he placed 2nd. He then joined Team All Africa Poker to the World Series of Poker where he came an incredible 22 place out of 6,000 players. Keep watching this space to see if Warren can make it all the way to the top at the March 2009 All Africa Poker Tournament!

All Africa Poker deals out more sensational poker viewing for fans

A new month brings new programming to All Africa Poker TV on DStv Channel 112 and from the 1st March 2010 poker fans can watch the premiere of the November 2009 All Africa Poker Tournament (AAPT). For local poker talent at its best, catch Ilija Martinovic, Eben Lottering, Peter Nilson and Russell Joselowsky as they battle it out for the AAPT championship and the R1 Million winner’s cheque.

In addition to this top local poker action, All Africa Poker TV is upping the ante this month, by securing the exclusive rights to air the World Series of Poker in Southern Africa, which includes footage from 2007 to 2009. Kicking off the series is a WSOP omnibus featuring the poker action from all the final tables held at the Main Event, which will air on 21 March 2010.

The most memorable WSOP final table for Southern African poker fans was in 2007, when All Africa Poker’s very own Ray Rahme went head to head with some of the world’s greatest poker players and emerged with a very respectable third place. Rahme remains the only Southern African player to have progressed to the final table at the WSOP.

The 2009 WSOP saw Team All Africa Poker member Warren Zackey finished in 22nd place, although Zackey did not make it to the final table, he nonetheless pocketed a tidy US$352 832 for his effort. The title went to Joseph “Joe” Cada, who entered the WSOP record books and currently holds the title for the youngest player to ever win the WSOP title at 21. Cada outlasted 6,493 other poker hopefuls to walk away with the title and banked $8,547,042 for his effort.
