All Africa Poker heads to DSTV 112

Here at Piggs Peak we are all quite excited about the move to DSTV 112. All Africa Poker TV will be moving from the DSTV Bouquet to Channel 112. This means that you can now PRV all your favourite programmes also watch poker on Dual View.

All Africa Poker expands its media offering

All Africa Poker TV is broadening its reach into the Southern African market, adding a new online platform to its electronic offering, and moving to a better position for itself on the DStv bouquet targeting the country’s growing niche of upper LSM poker enthusiasts.

Poker is enjoying a worldwide renaissance, coming out of the dingy backroom and into the mainstream, according to Wendy Graaf, Group Marketing Manager of Piggs Peak Casino, sponsors of All Africa Poker TV. Thanks to the televising of poker tournaments, the world’s favourite card game is attracting more and more fans, most of whom are upmarket and well-heeled.

More than 50% of All Africa Poker TV (AAP TV) viewers are in LSM 10, while over 27% are in LSM 9. Almost 80% earn in excess of R8,000 per month. The vast majority – almost 40% – are aged between 25 and 34, with a further 26% aged 18-24, and 24% aged 35-49. While most viewers are male, just over 30% of viewers are female, belying the belief that only men are interested in poker.

AAP TV has broadened its reach with the new location on the DStv bouquet on channel 112, on e.tv, and through the online poker video portal – www.allafricapoker.tv.

The AAP TV’s media platform has been on DStv since October 2003, and where despite a number of channel moves, as well as its more recent and difficult-to-access location on DStv’s OK interactive menu, the channel drew between 1,6-million and 1,8-million viewers a month (cume).

Responding to poker fans’ requests through a survey promoted across the DSTV bouquet, radio and internet campaigns, AAP TV will now be located in a more accessible location on the DStv bouquet. From the 1st of October, it will be located on channel 112, giving access to HD, Dual View and DStv Compact subscribers, who were previously unable to view the channel on the interactive OK menu. Six hours of the best local and international poker content will be broadcast each day from 22h30 along with viewer prize give-aways and competitions.

AAP TV has also broadened its reach with the recent launch of the All Africa Poker Zone every Sunday on e.tv from 23h30.

The third and newest platform is AAP TV Online. AAP TV’s market is a techno-savvy one, with many viewers preferring to access their media online, giving them control over when and how they consume content. At www.allafricapoker.tv viewers will shortly be able to download poker programmes within the iTunes platform, allowing them to watch repeatedly without consuming all their bandwidth. Programmes have also been packaged into smaller clips, so that viewers can share their favourite clips with friends on social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, the latter of which they use almost fanatically. The recent “Crack my Poker Face” campaign run in conjunction with 94.7 Highveld Stereo attracted thousands of new users to this online video platform where they came to view the video footage of the funny, shocking and often outrageous stunts and skits.

“With three platforms, we will achieve broader reach into the market, giving more viewers access to our poker content, enabling more people to interact with the All Africa Poker brand,” says Graaf.
