One more seat to the WSOP

The prize pool has been revised and one more player will be heading for the World Series of Poker in July! The sixth place payout has just jumped up by R150,000 and potentially by millions of dollars.

Two players that will unfortunately not be on that aeroplane to poker paradise are Dale Winterstein who also fell victim to the TV table and Andy Desai. Dale is out in 99th place and Andy in 98th when his two pairs were drawing dead to the set of Aces of Marlene Lingefelder.

In other action, Dermot Sweeney showed quad Queens with pride when Bennie Lingefelder folded his busted flush draw.

Gordon Harris is bullying his table with 7 2 suited. The interesting thing about this is not that he made a move with the worst possible starting hand but rather that the table read his hand to perfection but folded anyway!

TV table troubles

Table six is now the TV table but for Andrea Cornelli at least, all that this means is that his elimination in 103rd place has happened in a pretty environment. The presence of the Cornelli clan was decreased by 25% when a busted flush draw sent Andrea to the rail.

Ilja Martinovic, who strted his campaign on the TV table, has been eliminated in 102nd position. The charismatic and energetic player will not be gracing us with his presence on this final table.

Suren Naidoo goes home in 101st place.

Jay Sookoo will also not light up the room any longer and is out in 100th place.

The average stack has crept up to over 30,000 chips

The first casualties

The poker room is eerily silent. It is always amazing to see how the frenetic nature of the re-buy period changes, literally overnight, to a more serious and sedate behaviour.

This did not however deter the action table five from claiming the first victim of the morning. James Adams ends his run with a 106th place finish.

Nishad Abdul could not keep the form of the Cowboys running into day two despite getting all his chips in with the best of it. His KK was cracked by Warren Zackey’s A Q when the second lady appeared on the turn after all the chips were already in the middle. Out in 105th position.

Ilhan Marcinhes (replacement for Gil Yahav) has also been eliminated also after getting his chips in with the better hand. Naheem Lum completed his flush draw on the turn to send him packing in 104th place.

Play commences on day two

The 106 remaining players have just received their first two hole cards of the day. As always, Fridays are action days with about 80 players having their dreams dashed by the end of play. The remaining players will keep their hopes alive for an All Africa cash, a final table appearance and potentially a trip to fabulous Las Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker.

The day has begun well for ClownKramer as he doubles up at the expense of Ilja Martinovic. Both players flopped two pairs.

Day one comes to a close

One less lady

Lucinda Britt has just been eliminated in 107th position. Only four ladies are now gracing the tables with Marlene Lingerfelder amongst the chip leaders on table nine.

The other three ladies are seasoned campaigners and are all on table two! Karin Hasseris is a consistent top twenty finisher whilst Martie Faber still holds the record for the best female finish. Nicola Cillie is also around the average.

Table 10 has been broken up and the players distributed amongst the remaining tables. The consequence of this is that there are now three Cornellis on table six! Now that’s a real family pot…

Feature Table Studio claims its first victim

Nathan Len has the distinction of being the first person who is eliminated from the TV table in the Feature Table Studio.
His early exit in 109th place will be featured in the first episode of the next incarnation of the All Africa Poker Tournament on DSTV. Viewers will witness his demise with pocket Kings and Pocket Aces. Unlucky Len.

Darin Reilly was also eliminated when his A J did not manage to miraculously outdraw Pocket Rockets. Out in 108th place.

Two previous champs in the mix

The quiet but lethal Ryan Eber is busy building his stack.

In what turned out to be an interesting hand, Eber flopped top set with pocket sixes to Dale Winterstein’s pocket fives on a 3 4 6 board. Also trying to get to yet another final table, against the two previous winners was Dave Spangenberg who had a flush draw. After raises and reraises Winterstein had the foresight to lay his hand down and Spangenberg rebought when he could not fill his flush.

One person who will not know what it feels like to win All Africa (at least at this event) is Mark Buyskes who has been eliminated in 110th position.

King Kong is a killer

The first casualty of the tournament has come within minutes of the end of the first break. Bradley Moore is the unlucky player to become the first railbird of the tournament. Out in 111th position.

Brad Bernstein’s form at All Arica seems to not be improving as he got his Aces cracked on the river by Reyneke Bouille who found a much needed King to go with his other two.

Stuart Reilly’s luck also seems to have turned as his flopped two pair, with Q 9, was counterfeited by running threes to give Naheem Lam a better two pair with his pocket Kings.
