Familiar faces and previous All Africa Poker champs

It feels like home, but just in Australia. At every turn there is another All Africa Poker regular, this time it was Aston Soon Shing. Aston will be trying to satellite into the Main Event and will be joining our boys for the last super satellite tomorrow. Speaking of All Africa Poker regular’s I spotted Ray “Sliver fox” Rahme sitting just a few tables away from John Tabatabai. Let’s hope these two previous All Africa Poker Champs will get the cards they need to see them through to the final table at the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Tournament.

More poker stars arrive for the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event.

With the Aussie Millions Main Event taking place in 2 days, everyone is slowly making their way down to the poker room to register. The latest arrivals are Australia famed poker player Emad Tahtouh, from poker stars and previous Aussie Millions Champ Gus Hansen. Rumours of Shannon Elizabeth attending are still bussing around the poker room; this would be her third Aussie Millions Tournament. Another celebrity making his third tournament appearance will be Shane Warne, who made it deep into Day 2 at the 2008 WSOP but hopes to better this in his home town.

Welcome to the Australian Poker Hall of Fame.

This year’s Aussie Millions Tournament will be a special one for 7 players regardless of if they win or not. These gentlemen are not just poker players but rather poker legends and have been inducted into the Australian Poker Hall of Fame. These player’s, who have countless bad beat stories, have won and lost many poker tournaments but they have one thing in common…the love of the game.

Archer wins his first H.O.R.S.E event and flys the All Africa Poker flag high.

What a roller coaster today turned out to be, but well worth it. On the second day of play at 9.00pm, Jarred Solomon prevailed victorious and won the first prize of $30, 380 as well as the Aussie Millions Tournament Ring. Jarred went into the heads up against Van Marx, with about a 280, 000 chip lead. After a couple knocks which gave us all a scare, Jarred followed his instincts and hung in there. It all came down to:
Van moved all-in with 8H 8C 6S 2S, Jarred called with QC 7C 4H 2D.
The Flop brought 10D 5C 7H, the turn 3H and Jarred’s winning card, the river 6H.
Congrats Jarred – you deserve it!

Ryan exits Chairty Tournament….. just in time to support Jarred.

About 100 people took part to raise money for charity, with many of the celebrities being knocked out early. Ryan also exited the tournament early but not for a lack of trying.Ryan went all-in with 9 10 which came up against A 10. Flop showed J K 4, the turn brought a 2 and the Q river sent Ryan to the rail. “It was great fun and best part is that it’s for a good cause,” says Ryan as he runs to the other side of the poker room to support Jarred.

Archer makes $1, 100 H.O.R.S.E Final Table

Whilst all the festivities and celebrations are taking place at the celebrity event, there is a much more quiet and tense event on the other side of the poker room – the $1, 100 Horse Buy-in Event. Jarred Solomon, who entered on a whim, has made it to the final table. It’s day two of this event and as we join the table there are only 5 players left. Team All Africa Poker member’s Darren Kramer, Andre Johnstone, Sandy Koor, Neville and Ryan Eber are all supporting him from the rail.
Payout is as follows:
5th – $8, 330
4th – $10, 290
3rd – $15, 190
2nd – $20,580
1st – 30, 380

Charity is the name of the game at Aussie Millions Poker Tournament

The who’s who in Poker and Australia have come together for a good cause and are playing in the Celebrity and Media Challenge with the winner donating $5, 000 to a charity of their choice. With the last interview concluded, everyone is making their way to their tables. Ryan Dreyer, All Africa Poker Channel Commentator, will be representing Team All Africa Poker in this event. He will have the chance to play against the likes of actor Michael Vartan, westlife singer Brain McFadden, 2006 Aussie Champ Lee Nelson as well as Joe Hachem’s wife Jeanie. Hachem, who has been inducted into the Aussie Millions Hall of Fame, decided to rather save his energies for the Main Event but did come along to show his support. Vartan, a keen poker player since 1998, mentioned in his interview that he would love to come to the All Africa Poker Tournament as that would be his first trip to Africa. Michael, we plan to hold you to your word.

The Team has landed!

After 11 hours in the air, the crew from Team All Africa Poker reached their final destination Melbourne, Australia. The city buzzing with excitement from the cricket, tennis and poker, there was no time to waste and we made our way straight to the Crown Casino. The poker room, which is called Las Vegas, is full even at midnight with players warming up in smaller events or trying to win a satellite into the Main Event. Andre “ Shuffle” Johnstone and Jarred “ Archer” Solomon are amongst those players – hope you have good news for us at the breakfast table boys! Later today Sandy, Ryan, Michael and Victoria head off to cover the Celebrity and Media Challenge as well as get everyone registered for the Main Event. Stay logged on and blogging as this is going to be an exciting Aussie Millions!

Poker royalty to be hosted at 2009 Aussie Millions

A host of formidable poker legends and world famous celebrities are arriving at the Crowne Casino in Melbourne, Australia to participate in the 2009 Aussie Millions Celebrity & Media Challenge. This is set to take place tomorrow, the 15th of January 2009.

Ready to illustrate their poker prowess for a good cause are poker pro’s such as Joe Hachem, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, and defending Aussie Millions Champion Alexander Kostritsyn. There will also be a number of well-known musicians and actors, such as Irish singer Brian McFadden, Hollywood star Michael Vartan, host of MTV Ruby Rose and so on. In addition, several sport stars are expected to sit down and enrol for some sports of a different kind. These include the likes of tennis players Tommy Haas and Andy Roddick, as well as surfer Sunny Abberton.

To accommodate those who are new to the game of poker, there will first be a crash course on how to play, after which the official proceedings will kick off at 16h00. To find out which of these celebs walk away with the honours, keep your eye on this spot.

Team All Africa Poker Crew head to Aussie Millions

As Day 1 of the Aussie Millions Tournament draws closer, the remaining members of the All Africa Poker team head down under to join the rest of the gang.
Victoria Webb and Sandy Koor will be there to co-ordinate the tour and to keep everyone at home updated via the blog whilst Mike Collet will be filming the tour. All Africa Poker Channel Commentator Ryan Dryer will be there to get all the one-on-one interviews with tops poker star's as well as give you a first hand account from the Main Event. Stay tuned for daily updates and progress on all the poker action from the tournament.
