Michael Phelps pursues his poker dream

Thousands of people from all over the world aspire to be Michael Phelps, while Michael Phelps publicly declared at the Olympic Games earlier this year that he would like nothing more than becoming a poker pro and rubbing shoulders with the big guns on the poker scene. Now that he has earned himself some mega bucks through the aquatic sport, it seems as if he is finally able to pursue his dream and embark on some betting sports as well. Michael has been spotted playing at Day 1A of the WPT Bellagio Event which is currently in progress, with no one else but the formidable Phil Hellmuth to show him the ropes. Will the gifted Michael show some skill in the game of the intelligent too…??

And the pro’s get busted again…

The conclusion of this year’s WPT North American Poker Championship didn’t go to a pro, as anticipated during the earlier stages of the tournament. As the final table was set, odds were still in favour of the pros, as the majority of players were well-established names on the poker scene. But, the “shark vs. fish” advantage took an unexpected turn when it was a complete newcomer, Glen Witmer, who finally went heads up with Gavin Smith. To top it off, Witmer gave Smith a good run for his money, as it took forty hands to seal the deal. During the last hand, Smith pushed all in with pocket 5’s, but got busted by Witmer’s Bullets. Smith landed himself a considerable compensation though, having earned himself $532,545 for his second place finish. The newbie Witmer on the other hand, won a handsome $1,090,589, a desirable WPT title and the spotlight of the poker community.

No poker no vote

It has been reported that the Professional Poker Alliance in the US (PPA), has now launched a website with a political flavour. The website: www.congressionalpoker.com, enables poker players to evaluate the stance of their favourite US Congressmen on poker issues before voting for them! Based on these votes, as well as their contribution to the poker environment, the congressmen then receives a rating that indicates how “poker-friendly” they are. So if you would like to keep your favourite betting sports alive, you simply vote for the political leader who shares the passion! No doubt the rest of the world will follow suit shortly…..

Ylon Schwartz auctions off advertising space

Ylon Schwartz a member of the World Series of Poker’s November Nine has decided to auction himself on eBay. To be more precise, Ylon is auctioning off advertising space on the shirt he will be wearing at the final table of the WSOP. Forevervinyl, the seller, expects an auction price of between $100,000 and $300,000. The highest bidder will receive a ten square inch sewn-on badge on either the arm or chest. There is also the bid for using an individual card protector. The advertiser will be denied if it is a sex brand, or they contravene any other rules of Ylon’s agreement with PokerStars and ESPN

Daniel Craker wins Asian Pacific Poker Tour

Kiwi Daniel Craker won the Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Main Event that took place on his home ground this weekend, collecting a handsome first prize of NZD $257,040. Although Craker entered final play with a significant chip lead, he had managed to keep a low profile throughout, leaving all the hard work to Wang Jung before he moved in and made his killing. Wang Jung eliminated almost every opponent at the final table before Craker busted him into third place. By the time heads-up play kicked off, Craker had such a chip advantage; it took him only two hands to finish off his last opponent, Matthew Konnecke.
For his second place finish, Konnecke won $162,791.

The international reputation of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship as the richest poker game in the
Southern Hemisphere continues to escalate and has contributed to securing a celebrated field of world
class poker players that will travel to Melbourne’s Crown Casino in the New Year to compete for the title
of 2007 Aussie Millions Champion.

About Aussie Millions Poker Championship

The Aussie Millions is held each January.
The championship includes 13 tournaments culminating in the $10,000 buy-in Aussie Millions Main Event.
The 2007 Aussie Millions is expected to reach a prize pool of AUD$5 million with a first prize of AUD$1.5 million (subject to the number of entrants).

The first Aussie Millions was held in 1998 with a $1,000 buy-in and $74k prize pool and 10 international participants mainly from New Zealand. The tournament has grown to become a major event on the international poker tournament schedule. It now ranks in the top 10 worldwide.

News 2007 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Day Eight

MELBOURNE Australia, January 13, 2007 – The Aussie Millions Poker Championship yesterday was one of the most electrifying to date. The $100,000 No Limit Holdem Invitational Event attracted some of the world’s best and biggest names in poker world including Phil Ivey and a very strong support crowd to match. 18 poker players sat down to battle it out in an exciting game that ended well into this morning.

The offer of the $1.8 Million prize pool with an even $1 Million going to the winner, attracted the largest crowds to date in the Crown Poker Room. By midnight it soon became a ‘carnival like atmosphere’ with Team Full Tilt’s Erick Lindgren and Erik Seidel joined at the table with the unknown Masaaki Kagawa from Japan remaining, Lindgren responded by shouting spectators that were climbing the rails to see a piece of the action Crown Lagers!

Karma must has rewarded Lindgren, known by his online nickname ‘EDOG’ who took the title after a heads up struggle with fellow Full Tilt team member Erick Siedel.
