The early victims continue to fall

The break did Chris Morris no good as he is the first person eliminated during the second phase of play. He is out in 120th position.

Craig Ortmann also seems to have been too relaxed and is now watching the action rather than partaking. Out in 119th place.

118 players remain.

Chip counts after the first break

The early leader is Gareth Kalil with 44,550 chips whilst his next closer competitor on his table is Bennie Lingenfelder with 33,100.

Ilja Martinovic is a close second on 44,075 with the player to his left, Ryan Brauer sitting on 37,225. Greg Ronaldson and Bennie Lingenfelder are in fourth place with and Nickolas Zackhem is fifth with 29,625 chips.

At this stage in the 12th AAPT there were no casualties. This tournament seems to be taking its toll.

A brief overview of the tables

Table 1: Peter Vermaas is the early aggressor with company from another seasoned campaigner, Gordon Harris. The colourful Mr Sookoo is also at this table.

Table 2: Any table with Marc Isaacson is an action table. Isaacson I son the inevitable roller coaster and the main recipient of the chips is Darren Van Heerden. Also this table is Ryan Eber who is his usual quiet patient self.

Table 3: Calm and quiet with Eugene du Plessis holding the early lead. Jaco Mouton is also at this table.
Table 4: Martie Faber, Ryan Price and Dale Winterstein are all at this tough table.

Table 5: Andre Johnstone is dominating this table that also features the previous runner up Kyri Patsalos.

Table 6: Karin and Sonja are both at this table with Ray Rahme and Daniel Callighan. Sonja seems to be getting the better of the boys with Damien Cornelli also in the hunt.

Table 7: Seems to be a fun table with lots of action featuring some very solid players. Seated here are Dave Spangenberg, Oliver Berman, Darren Miller, Neville Eber and Fabio Cornelli.

Table 8: Jaime Vilela, Brian Winterstein and Greg Ronaldson are all present and playing, Nicholas Sissou seems to have a few chips whilst Wessel Jacobs who was on the final table in the last AAPT is distinctive with his leather cap.

Table 9: Darren Kramer doing the business at the expense of Jaco Storm and Claude Sacks

Table 10: Ryan Brauer and Ilja MArtinovic seem to be dominating this action table

Table 11: Walji Ashif has the biggest stack at the moment on a table that features the legendary Joe Rahme.

Table 12: Stuck away in the corner, Jarred Solomon, Keiran Reilly, Marco Farrel and Mauro De Rose are fighting it out.

Feature Table: Lots of fun and laughter with Ed Jordan being the consummate entertainer and Gary Lentin being his usual relaxed and talkative self whilst Markm Lithman seems to be edging ahead on the chip count.

The TV table claims its first victim

Nicolaas Geldenhuys is the second victim of the night and has been eliminated in 123rd position.

The sms winner managed to outlast two players and is also now a railbird. Out in 122nd place. On a table with two time champion Peter Vermaas as his introduction to poker, Rydal may have just been out of his depth.

Nishad Abdul is also out in 121st place.

The third blind level of the night, 100/200 will begin after the short break and chip counts will follow.

The Eagle is at it

Ilja Martinovic is at it again. Followers of the “white eagles” escapades know that he is notorious for playing his low pairs on any board and miraculously hitting two outers with alarming regularity.

That streak does not seem to be ending. The hapless victim in this case was Deon Anthony who made the fatal mistake of assuming that top pair (J) with top kicker is a good bet. The board showed 5,7,5,J when the action came to a head. Ilja showed his “snowmen” (8 and amazingly (or expectedly) the river produced the dreaded 8.
Another rebuy.

The Ladies

As always the ladies at the poker tables are sure to provide their own particular brand of entertainment. All of the ladies that are gracing us with their presence are experienced campaigners and very good players that will not be showing their softer side for the next few days.

Karin Hasseriis, the top lady finisher from the previous All Africa Poker Tournament is back and hoping to improve on that fated number 14 finishing position that she has managed on three previous occasions!

Martie Faber, with a third place finish in her list of accomplishments, has the distinction of being the lady who has gone the deepest in any if the previous AAPT’s. Maybe its time for our first lady champion?

Sonja Ming Fok is also back. Sonja was one of the brave ladies that played in the very first AAPT in February 2005. Sonja’s husband Raymond is also playing and he will be looking to improve on his final table appearance in the second All Afrcia Poker Tournament.

Out in 124th place

Bevan Morgan has the dubious honour of being eliminated first from the tournament.

It took only half an hour for Bevan to storm out of the poker room in disgust when his big slick (A K) was unceremoniously beaten by the 6 8 of the very dangerous/loose/aggressive Marc Isaacson. After an A, 7, 9 flop, the turn produced the needed five for Marc’s straight to be completed and for Bevan’s dream to end.

Unlucky Bevan, better luck next time.
