A Million Rand Poker Legend continues
Piggs Peak Casino hosted the 8th All Africa Poker Tournament on the 23rd and 24th of February 2007. As expected, Africa’s richest poker tournament produced a spectacular final table and an incredibly high standard of poker.
The ninety strong field was filled weeks in advance and with a significant waiting list for a seat in this prestigious event. “Team All Africa Poker” had just returned from the Aussie Millions Poker Tournament in Melbourne, Australia held in January 2007. Players and spectators were keen to see how playing with the world’s top poker pros in Australia would affect their play in the All Africa Poker Tournament.
The tournament’s popularity has grown exponentially and this was evident in the biggest ever lady contingent, with six entrants from the fairer sex. Martie Faber, nearly stole the show when she had Peter Vermaas, “all-in” and behind with his tournament life at stake. Vermaas came from behind to survive, and went on to beat Ryan Brauer in a scintillating heads up duel. Martie Faber was the first lady ever to make it to the final table and went on to finish in a very respectable 3rd place, collecting a handsome R150,000.
Ryan Brauer, who did South Africa proud in the Aussie Millions, finishing 30th, continued his great play over the weekend and finished 2nd to Peter Vermaas, and picked up a tidy R300,000 for his efforts.
Peter Vermaas went on to victory and his 2nd One Million Rand winner’s cheque. Vermaas cemented his place as South Africa’s best tournament player with a total of five final table appearances in the All Africa Poker Tournament.
The tournament was once again filmed and all the exciting action will be shown on All Africa Poker Channel, DSTV Channel 121, from the middle of April.
Tournament organizers announced that the next All Africa Poker Tournament will be held in approximately twelve weeks time.
