18- and 19-year olds shine at LAPT
Two surprisingly young poker players have just made headlines worldwide, by finishing at the final table and cashing in at a major poker tournament, the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). Outsmarting some of the biggest guns on the international poker scene, Dominik Nitsche, an 18-year old high school student from Germany, finally went heads-up with Jorge Landazuri, a 19-year old from Mexico. But it was the younger of the two, Nitchse, who eventually claimed the title and collected an incredible $381,030, before he even claimed his high school certificate!
This is how the final hand went down: Nitsche raised preflop holding Ks-Jh, and Landazuri called with his Js-5c. When the board flopped Kh-9d-8h, Nitsche bet out, Landazuri check-raised and Nitsche called. When Landazuri bet out at the 10s turn, Nitshe called again. When the river brought a Kd, Landazuri did not get the straight he was holding out for. He nevertheless went All-In, probably hoping he could scare Nitsche out of the pot. Nitsche called without hesitation though, busting Landazuri with his set of Kings.
Nitsche beamed with pride as this was his first major poker tournament victory, whilst Landazuri was also more than pleased with his handsome second prize of $211,700.
